  • Description: This course is designed to equip Occupational Therapy professionals with an introductory understanding of ergonomic principles as they relate to workers in office environments. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to identify work-related musculoskeletal disorders and their ergonomic risk factors as well as how to analyze office-based and remote workstations. Furthermore, participants will receive a comprehensive review of effective interventions, equipment, and workplace modifications aimed at enhancing comfort and overall productivity for the office worker.

    Learning Outcomes:

    1) By the end of this course, participants will understand the unique value of occupational therapy professionals working in the realm of ergonomics.

    2) Participants will identify at least 3 regulatory bodies, standards, or laws that relate to ergonomics.

    3) Participants will correctly identify at least 90% of the common ergonomic risk factors in office environments.

    4) By the end of this course, participants will demonstrate proficiency in applying ergonomic principles to recommend changes to a workstation by achieving a score of 90% or higher on a Learning Outcome Assessment.

  • Description: This course is designed for Occupational Therapy professionals looking to deepen their understanding and skillset in office ergonomics. Building upon foundational concepts, participants will explore the components of a comprehensive office ergonomic assessment. Participants will learn how to conduct a thorough battery of screening and risk assessments to identify ergonomic risks and their potential impact on workers' health and productivity. By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence to perform effective office ergonomic assessments and create beneficial solutions as a Certified Ergonomic Consultant – Office or CEC/O.

    2) Participants will use 2 ergonomic screening tools to evaluate an office workstation, correctly identifying at least 90% of potential workstation or postural/behavioral issues.

    3) Participants will use a standardized assessment to quantify an ergonomic risk score (RULA) with 90% accuracy.

    4) Upon completing the course, participants will write an advanced assessment report, including at least 4-5 specific and evidence-based adjustments to optimize posture and reduce strain.

Participants will learn about a variety of screening and risk assessment tools as well as how to conduct an advanced office ergonomic assessment. Meet The Presenters

 

Nikki Weiner OTD, OTR/L, AOEAS, CEAS II

Dr. Weiner is a licensed occupational therapist, co-founder, and president of The Rising Workplace. Trained as a certified ergonomic specialist, Nikki performs ergonomic assessment, consulting, and training for all types of work settings. She earned a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences from the University of Georgia and a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Washington University in St. Louis. Nikki’s professional work has been featured in The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, OTJR: Occupation, Participation, and Health, Business Insider, The New York Times, and Today in OT magazine.

 

Christina Russo MSOT, CEAS, CEES

Christina graduated from The College of New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree in Health & Exercise Science and received her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University. Post graduation, she received training as a certified ergonomic specialist. She continued to develop her skillset beyond office ergonomics to include laboratory, patient-handling and materials-handling ergonomics as well as injury prevention education and training in multiple settings. Her current role with The Rising Workplace has her utilizing her past skills and connecting with employees around the world to address their ergonomic needs and concerns.
